Four years ago, Monica walked the halls of Davao Doctors Hospital (DDH) as a medical intern, dedicated to learning and serving the community. This year, she returned to those familiar surgical suites with a profound new purpose.
She returned to those same halls not as part of the medical team, but as a daughter—selflessly donating her kidney to give her father a second chance at life. Her journey serves as a powerful reminder that while medicine is built on science and skill, it is fueled by family, sacrifice, and hope.
A Historic Milestone in Precision Surgery
This case also marks a significant achievement for medical innovation in the region. Monica underwent a Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy, a minimally invasive procedure that allows for faster recovery and less scarring for the donor.
This successful operation is only the second Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy performed in Mindanao, and Monica makes history as the region’s first female laparoscopic kidney donor. This milestone underscores DDH’s capability to perform high-level, minimally invasive transplant surgeries that prioritize donor safety and wellness.

By God’s grace, the kidney transplant was a success. Monica is currently recovering well, and her father continues his journey toward full health with a renewed spirit.
