DAVAO CITY, Philippines — In a powerful convergence of hope and clinical excellence, Davao Doctors Hospital (DDH) officially launched the Pink Circle Program at the DDH Cancer Center last February 4, 2026. Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Ribbon of Hope and in solidarity with World Cancer Day, this initiative establishes a dedicated sanctuary for the emotional, mental, and social empowerment of individuals navigating the complexities of a cancer diagnosis.

A Holistic Vision for Cancer Care in Mindanao
The launching ceremony showcased a pivotal shift toward a more compassionate, multidisciplinary approach to oncology. DDH Chief Operating Officer Mirasol Tiu reaffirmed the hospital’s mission to provide genuine, holistic care.
“Cancer healing is a journey that transcends medical prescriptions and radiation cycles,” Tiu stated during her keynote address. “The true essence of recovery lies in nurturing the emotional and mental resilience of our patients. The DDH Pink Circle is our symbol of hope and collaboration—a testament that while we treat the illness, we care deeply for the person.”
Empowering the Pink Circle First Aiders
A cornerstone of this program is the introduction of the Pink Circle First Aiders. This specialized group of volunteers consists of trained individuals prepared to offer immediate emotional “first aid” and mental health interventions to patients and their families.
These first aiders serve as the front line of psychosocial support, bridging the gap between clinical treatment and emotional stability. Their reach is designed to be expansive, offering guidance and a listening ear not only within the halls of Davao Doctors Hospital but across the wider Davao Region community.
Strengthening the Bond: Partnership with Breast Friends Davao
The program is spearheaded by the DDH Mental Health & Psychosocial Services in a strategic partnership with Breast Friends Davao—a prominent group of survivors and advocates. This collaboration ensures that the support provided is rooted in lived experience and peer-to-peer empathy.
The event saw strong medical advocacy with the presence of Breast Surgeon Dr. Joan Fabiosa-Reyes, emphasizing the vital link between surgical success and psychosocial well-being. By integrating the clinical expertise of DDH with the inspirational advocacy of Breast Friends, the Pink Circle offers a unique support system where patients can find strength in shared stories and collective courage.
A Roadmap for Patient Empowerment
The DDH Pink Circle is not merely a symbolic gesture but a structured program with clear, actionable goals for the coming year. The initiative will roll out a series of high-impact activities designed to improve the quality of life for cancer warriors and their caregivers:
-
Regular Psychosocial & Emotional Support Sessions: Professional-led interventions to manage anxiety, depression, and treatment-related stress.
-
Facilitated Group Sharing Circles: Providing a safe, confidential space for patients and caregivers to exchange experiences and coping strategies.
-
Holistic Wellness & Empowerment Workshops: Activities focusing on nutrition, mindfulness, and self-care to reclaim a sense of agency over one’s life.
-
Community Volunteer Engagement: An expanded recruitment drive to ensure that the “Pink Circle” support network reaches the furthest corners of Mindanao.
A New Chapter of Compassion
The launch concluded with symbolic rites of hope and uplifting messages from the survivor community, highlighting the program’s core philosophy: creating a safe, trustworthy space for the emotional journey of every cancer warrior.
The DDH Pink Circle reinforces the hospital’s standing as a leading provider of patient-centered, multidisciplinary oncology care. Through this union of professional mental health services and community advocacy, Davao Doctors Hospital marks a new era of companionship—ensuring that no patient in the Davao Region has to walk their path alone.
